BALDWIN PARK – ABC Family and Disney Channel stars delighted students at Baldwin Park Unified’s Tracy Elementary School on Aug. 20 with more than 700 backpacks filled with school supplies thanks to a partnership with the nonprofit Baby2Baby.
In collaboration with Disney, Baby2Baby provided Avengers and Elena of Avalor backpacks for every student – with those in transitional kindergarten through first-grade participating in a dance warmup alongside the young celebrities.
“This is so amazing,” Tracy Elementary first-grader Natalie Ceja said. “It is fun to see the Disney kids, and I love my backpack because Elena is my favorite.”
Aubrey Anderson-Emmons from “Modern Family,” Jason Maybaum from “Raven’s House” and Isaak Presley and Malachi Barton from “Stuck in the Middle” handed out backpacks and showed off their moves. Afterward, students were treated to chocolate-dipped, frozen bananas.
The backpack giveaway was part of Baby2Baby’s kick-off event to expand resources from Baldwin Park Unified’s Early Childhood Education (ECE) program to all elementary schools within the District. Baby2Baby provides basic necessities for newborns and children up to 12, including shoes, clothes, cribs and backpacks.
“Young people are encouraged to go to school but so often they do not have the resources to get there,” Baby2Baby program director Jorie Aldrich said. “The biggest help Baby2Baby can provide is to make sure teachers and students are able to thrive with these basic essentials.”
The District’s ECE program has worked with Baby2Baby for over a year. The organization supplies monthly diaper donations and sponsors Baldwin Park Unified families during the holidays.
“This was an incredible event for our Tracy Elementary students and families that allowed them to enjoy themselves and get excited for the new year,” Baldwin Park Unified Superintendent Dr. Froilan N. Mendoza said. “We are grateful to Baby2Baby and Disney for providing every student with the supplies they need to succeed.”
