The exam was suspended this school year via Senate Bill 172, signed by Gov. Jerry Brown in October. That same action suspended the requirement that students pass the exam to obtain their diplomas from 2015-16 to 2017-18.
The law allows students who were not granted diplomas from 2003-04 through 2013-14 solely because of the CAHSEE to receive their diplomas. A separate legislative action removed the requirement for students graduating in 2014-15.
“These are students who passed all of the other requirements to graduate established by Baldwin Park Unified and the State of California,” said Superintendent Froilan N. Mendoza. “I congratulate them on being up on the news and contacting the District to obtain their diplomas now that the state has decided to suspend the exit exam at this time.”
Former BPUSD students who met all graduation requirements except the CAHSEE should contact Director of Support Services Noreen Iwai-Ito at [email protected].
