New Baldwin Park Unified Board of Education Member Takes Oath of Office

BALDWIN PARK – Diana E. Dzib, a high school coordinator at Mt. San Antonio College, took the oath of office on Tuesday as the newest member of the Baldwin Park Unified Board of Education.

At Mt. SAC, Dzib assists with accreditation activities, serves as a classified staff senator and is a member of the Adult Education Block Grant consortia, which includes representatives from Baldwin Park Unified. She has lived in the district for 30 years; her son attended Baldwin Park schools.

Dzib fills a vacancy created when Board Member Blanca Estela Rubio resigned in December 2016 to take a seat in the California Assembly. She will serve until the board’s November 2017 election.

“We look forward to a fruitful collaboration with Diana, who brings special expertise and knowledge to our board,” Board of Education President Christina Lucero said.

Dzib holds a juris doctorate and a master of arts in education/curriculum and instruction. She is a former college adjunct instructor and juvenile hall substitute teacher.

She volunteers as an advocate for special education students within the juvenile justice and foster care systems through the Los Angeles Education and Developmental Rights program led by the juvenile division of the Los Angeles Superior Court. She also has served as a consultative school board member for St. John the Baptist School for eight years, an appointed post that supports the school in establishing a strategic plan, policies and procedures.

Dzib, who was selected by the Board on Jan. 24, said she will work diligently on behalf of Baldwin Park Unified’s students.

“I am humbled by the trust placed in me by this board and our community. I will dedicate my efforts to helping ensure all students have equal access to the rigorous educational programs necessary to prepare them for the challenges of college and careers,” Dzib said.
