Olive Middle School Hosts Interactive GATE Showcase

Olive Middle School students took center stage on Thursday, March 20, as the campus transformed into a hub of creativity and innovation during its annual GATE Showcase. The event, featuring over 20 interactive booths, invited students, staff, and families to explore a diverse range of student-led projects spanning literature, math, science, and the arts.

Sixth- through eighth-grade GATE students showcased their research and talents through unique presentations, including an analysis of how classical music affects the brain, a deep dive into historical books, poetry reflections through art, and an Algebra rap. Additional projects highlighted studies on The Odyssey and Star Girl, artistic deep dives into Tyler the Creator and Kendrick Lamar, and medical explorations of the flu and other viruses’ impact on the body.

As a proud GATE and Dual Language middle school, Olive also welcomed future Lancers from Walnut Elementary School, whose fifth-grade students are part of a pen pal program with Olive’s scholars. The young visitors engaged with interactive displays, learning firsthand from older students about the creativity involved in GATE projects.

“The GATE Showcase is an opportunity for our students to demonstrate their critical thinking and passion for learning,” Principal Pamela Cruz said. “It was wonderful to have our future Lancers from Walnut Elementary join us. Events like this give younger students a glimpse of the exciting opportunities waiting for them at Olive!”

The showcase featured hands-on activities, games, and an engaging atmosphere that fostered curiosity and collaboration.
