Baldwin Park High Science Teacher Earns Grant for Water Education

Smith received special recognition for the grant during the Baldwin Park Unified School District Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2025.

The grant is part of VCWD’s Aquacademy, a community-based initiative designed to provide water education programs for adults and children in the district’s service area. The program bridges the gap between knowledge and action by offering interactive workshops, hands-on activities, and tailored resources aimed at fostering water-wise habits and empowering the community to safeguard water as a critical resource.

“We were impressed by Mr. Smith’s dedication to environmental consciousness and his commitment to responsible ecological learning,” said VCWD Executive Assistant Colleen Malailba.

Smith plans to use the grant to introduce hydroponic lessons into his Forensic Biology curriculum, allowing students to engage in hands-on learning about sustainable water usage and agriculture.
