Baldwin Park Unified School District officially swore in its newly elected Board of Education members during the December 10, 2024, Organizational meeting held at the District Administration Center. New board members, Norma Olmos, Yvonne S. Juarez, Dr. Jose M. Mata, and Ricardo Vazques, join returning member John B. de Leon to form the District’s Governing Board of Education.
During the meeting, the Board conducted its annual organizational functions, electing officers and designating representatives for various committees. The positions for the 2025 calendar year are as follows:
Board President: John B. de Leon, Esq.
Board Clerk/Vice President: Norma Olmos
Los Angeles County School Trustees Association Representative: Yvonne S. Juarez
Los Angeles County Committee on School District Organization Representative: Ricardo Vazques
San Gabriel Valley Regional Occupational Program Representative: Jose M. Mata, Ed.D
Community Collaborative Committee Representatives: Norma Olmos and Ricardo Vazques
Board terms are staggered, with John B. de Leon and Norma Olmos serving through 2026, and Yvonne S. Juarez, Dr. Jose M. Mata, and Ricardo Vazques serving through 2028.
About the Board Members
John B. de Leon is a lifelong resident of Baldwin Park and alumnus of Sierra Vista High School. An attorney for the State of California, Mr. de Leon brings a strong legal and advocacy background. He is deeply committed to enhancing academic opportunities, career technical education, and extracurricular programs for Baldwin Park students.
Norma Olmos has lived in Baldwin Park for over 25 years. Ms. Olmos has a deep connection to the community and previously served as a Parks and Recreation Commissioner. She has a passion for student success, as she is an active parent of five children.
Ricardo Vazques is a longtime Baldwin Park resident and former City Planning Commissioner. A dedicated teacher and community volunteer, Mr. Vazques is committed to fostering a positive impact through education and service.
Dr. Jose M. Mata is a proud Sierra Vista High School alumnus, former history teacher, and current middle school principal. With a doctorate in education, Dr. Mata is dedicated to student achievement and fostering a strong school-community connection.
Yvonne S. Juarez has resided in Baldwin Park since 2016 and is a mother of three. Ms. Juarez is a passionate and experienced educator with 18 years of teaching experience.
