Baldwin Park Unified School District student Board Members Jasmin Sivakumaran (Baldwin Park High), Lathanyel Lee (North Park High), and Jason Avendaño (Sierra Vista High) participated in the California School Boards Association (CSBA) Student Board Member Two-Day Program on Dec. 4-5, 2024, held in conjunction with the Annual Education Conference and Trade Show at the Anaheim Convention Center.
The program, designed to enhance governance and leadership skills, featured workshops on good governance principles, budgeting basics, and effective communication strategies. Students engaged in group exercises to develop community action plans and learned how to advocate for student concerns within the Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) framework.
On the second day, participants attended the Disney Leadership Assembly, hosted by Disney Imagination Campus, which emphasized creativity, critical thinking, and innovation. “
My favorite moment was the short course by a Yale professor on integrating happiness into life amidst stress and pressure,” Sivakumaran said. “The highlight was definitely going to Disneyland., and having a blast with new friends and peers.”
