In a blend of art, culture, and education, 36 students from grades 10 through 12 participated in a field trip to the Los Angeles Great Wall and LACMA. Led by their teachers, students were able to visit the Los Angeles Great Wall, a vibrant reflection of the city, expressed through a cultural mosaic. Guided by knowledgeable tour guides, they delved into the intricate narratives depicted on the mural. Making the trip extra special, students were able to interact with artists who were actively expanding this iconic artwork.
Following their experience at the Los Angeles Great Wall, the students proceeded to the iconic LACMA. Here, they immersed themselves in a world of artistic works, galleries, and masterpieces spanning diverse cultures and genres. From sculptures to contemporary installations, each artwork sparked curiosity among the students. In a surprise event, students met the esteemed American artist and activist, Judy Baca. Known for her groundbreaking work as a Chicana artist, public art, and social justice, Baca shared her inspiring journey.
"The added surprise of interacting with the current artists, especially Baca, was a monumental experience for our students. We've wanted to take this field trip for years, and when LACMA added the last forty years of history to the Great Wall, we knew it was time to bring our Dual Language students," Sierra Vista High School Dual Language teacher Darlene Torres said.
