Students at BP STEM Academy can enjoy a new quiet and creative atmosphere aimed at cultivating a positive space. The newly opened wellness room offers students five different stations with various activities including: an arts station equipped with crafty supplies, a calming corner set up with cozy bean bags and zen mantras to unwind, a writing area with thoughtful journaling and reflection prompts, a fidget zone with interactive tasks and tools, and lastly, a reading nook with books and a comfortable space.
After five months of planning and preparation by instructional aide Cesia Castellanos, School Counselors Brenda Padilla and Lonnie Moreno, the BP STEM Wolves now have a dedicated space to rest and unwind.
“We are excited to bring this positive resource to our students. Mental health is an integral part of a child's education, and this is a great step in that direction,” said BP STEM Academy School Counselor Lonnie Moreno.
As students walk inside the room, they are welcomed with decorations, positive artwork, and uplifting messages crafted by instructional aide Cesia Castellanos. The calming atmosphere comes together with soft and serene music.
The school counselors are encouraging students to use the wellness room as an unplugged and device free zone to remove distractions and maintain a peaceful environment for all. BP STEM Wolves are invited to visit the wellness center during their brunch break, while a wider schedule develops.
The wellness room implementation is a key effort aligned with the District’s goal of expanding its mental health and social-emotional support for students.
