Board Members Take Oath of Office

Baldwin Park Unified held its annual Board reorganization meeting and Oath of Office Ceremony on Dec. 13, recognizing returning Board of Education member Deanna Coronado Robles and newly elected member John Bernard de Leon.

Before the reorganization, outgoing Board President Betsabel Lara was celebrated for her four years of service and for helping lead the District over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the organizational meeting, the Board selected member Diana E. Miranda-Dzib to serve as Board President and Christina Lucero to serve as Clerk/Vice President. Also serving on the board is member Santos Hernandez, Jr.

“I want to congratulate Mr. de Leon for joining the Board of Education, as well as Mrs. Robles, Mr. Hernandez, Ms. Lucero and Mrs. Miranda-Dzib for continuing their leadership on the Board,” Superintendent Dr. Froilan N. Mendoza said. “I look forward to continuing a strong partnership with the Board.”

Robles was first elected to the Board of Education in 2018. She attended Tracy Elementary, Sierra Vista Middle School and Sierra Vista High School before raising four children in the District.

Robles holds an associate degree in Early Childhood Education and Special Education from Cerritos Community College, and a bachelor’s degree in Child Development from the University of La Verne.

Also a lifelong resident of Baldwin Park, de Leon attended Kenmore and Tracy elementary schools, Sierra Vista Middle School and graduated from Sierra Vista High School. de Leon and his wife met while they were students at SVHS; they have four children with a fifth child on the way.

de Leon holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Southern California and a Juris Doctor Degree from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law.
