Cheered on by family and faculty members, Class of 2021 graduates from Baldwin Park and Sierra Vista high schools returned to campus for one last time to receive scholarships and accolades during their respective annual Senior Recognition and Awards Night.
Baldwin Park High School hosted its Senior Recognition on May 25 and Sierra Vista High School hosted its Senior Awards on May 27.
At BPHS, joyous smiles could be seen behind the masks of seniors as they walked on stage to receive tassels and certificates, invigorated by cheers of support and applause from the crowd.
“It’s a great honor to stand here to celebrate the accomplishments of our students,” Baldwin Park High Principal Dr. Gilberto Rodriguez said. “I would like to commend our families for the work, dedication and sacrifices you have made to get your child to this point.”
On Sierra Vista High School’s field, seniors were recognized by school leaders and District administrators for displaying excellence in academics and athletics during a turbulent year.
Seniors received a gold tassel for maintaining a GPA of 3.0 or higher, a silver tassel and cord for a GPA of 3.5 or higher, and a gold tassel and cord for a GPA of 4.0 or higher. Students were also recognized with Dual Language, Bi-Literacy, Regional Occupational Program and Athletic Department certificates.
Several scholarships were presented, including awards from the Baldwin Park Teacher’s Association, the California School Employees Association, the Baldwin Park Organization of Supervisors and Administrators, the Baldwin Park Woman’s Club and the Mark Daniel Flores Music Foundation.
“Throughout a tough year, our graduating seniors have time and time again shown they are ambitious, determined and hard-working. It is wonderful to see them recognized for their many achievements,” Superintendent Dr. Froilan N. Mendoza said. “I would like to commend our teachers, administrators and staff for their hard work, our District partners for their generous scholarships, and our parents for their support during a year like no other.”

SVHS_Senior Awards: Sierra Vista High School graduates Kimberly Lozano and Anthony Rosas were named 2020-21 Outstanding Athletes of the Year during the school’s Senior Awards Night on May 27.
