The Baldwin Park Unified School District recognizes teaching staff on National Teacher Appreciation Day for their dedication, and for empowering students to become lifelong learners, critical thinkers, and responsible citizens. From early childhood education through adult education, there are over 630 teachers across the District, including education specialists, athletics directors, teachers on special assignment, and curriculum technology intervention coaches. Teachers in BPUSD provide students with unique avenues for growth, including encouraging positive behavior through PBIS, Dual Language, and a variety of special courses such as Sports Medicine, Video Production, Visual and Performing Arts, Architectural and Engineering, Honors, AP courses, and many more.
"Our school community is fortunate to have highly qualified teachers who are dedicated to educating our youth. We are grateful for their invaluable contributions, which inspire and empower our students to achieve their full potential," Superintendent Froilan N. Mendoza said.
Whether it's implementing visual aids, incorporating hands-on activities, or trying different learning environments, the District is proud of our teachers’ efforts to ensure that every student has the opportunity to thrive. By integrating real-world applications into their curriculum, and extending off campus growth opportunities, they empower students to connect classroom learning to skills essential for future endeavors. Such opportunities include taking exclusive field trips to museums, sports stadiums, job fairs, symposiums, college campuses, and unique visits to the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, among others.
Beyond the traditional classroom setting, teachers are also actively involved in enriching students' experiences through before- and after-school activities. From clubs to coaching sports teams and organizing field trips, they extend their dedication beyond regular school hours. These extracurricular activities not only foster students' interests and talents, but also cultivate important life skills such as teamwork, leadership, and time management.
This year, the BPUSD recognized Cynthia Milian as the 2023-24 District-wide Teacher of the Year. Milian, a 20 year veteran teacher, currently teaches third grade Dual Language at Geddes Elementary School. This is Milian’s second District-wide Teacher of the Year award. “Being a student in my class means you will be inspired, challenged, and supported to meet high academic standards,” Milian said.
In addition, Jesus Meza was recognized as the 2023-24 Adult and Community Teacher of the Year. Meza is a CTE Electrician Teacher at Baldwin Park Adult and Community Education (BPACE). His teaching philosophy centers on practical skills development and critical thinking, aiming to equip adult learners with essential electrical knowledge for career advancement. With a focus on real-world applications and fostering independent problem-solving skills, he cultivates self-reliance and empowers student success in the electrical field.
The District extends its gratitude to all teachers who play a pivotal role in creating a well-rounded educational experience for students.
